Local Fence Experts for De Soto Homes
Homeowners in De Soto know there is a real difference between a crew that drives in from far away and a fence company that understands how people actually live along the Kansas River valley. Legendary Fence Company Lawrence serves De Soto with a close eye on local neighborhoods, from older bungalows and mid‑century ranch homes to newer subdivisions built in the last 10 to 20 years.
Many De Soto properties sit on modest sized city lots with established trees, mature landscaping, and existing outbuildings. Others are on the edge of town with deeper backyards and more exposure to open fields and strong winds. These details matter when planning a fence that looks right with your home and holds up to Johnson County weather. Our team is familiar with the mix of older homes that may have shifting soil around original foundations, as well as newer construction where grading and drainage are still settling.
Because we work in De Soto regularly, we plan each fence with the way local yards are actually used. That can mean keeping sightlines open toward surrounding green space, adding privacy between closely spaced houses, or creating durable enclosures for pets on properties that back up to open ground. Legendary Fence Company Lawrence focuses on designs that feel like they belong in De Soto, not generic layouts copied from another city.
Our Step by Step Fence Installation Process in De Soto
Legendary Fence Company Lawrence follows a consistent process that is adapted to De Soto lot sizes, soil conditions, and neighborhood expectations.
We begin with a site visit and walk your property with you. In De Soto, that often means noting how your fence will interact with existing decks or patios on mid‑sized suburban lots, and identifying low spots where clay soil holds water after heavy summer storms. We talk through how you use your yard, whether that is kids playing, dogs that like to dig, or simply needing a visual barrier from nearby homes.
Next, we discuss materials and layout. For many De Soto homeowners, privacy fences around backyards with medium height posts and gates that align with existing driveways or side yards are common. If your home is on a corner or near open ground, we consider how wind coming across the Kansas River valley will hit long fence runs and adjust post spacing and depth to prevent leaning.
Before digging, we confirm property lines and call to locate utilities, which is especially important in established De Soto neighborhoods where older gas or communication lines can be closer to the surface. We then set posts to depths appropriate for local freeze and thaw cycles, paying special attention to areas where the soil transitions from compacted fill near newer homes to heavier native clay in older parts of town.
Once the framework is in place, we install panels or pickets, trim, and hardware, checking that gates swing properly even on ground that may shift slightly through wet and dry seasons. After cleanup, we walk the fence with you, explain maintenance for your chosen material, and answer any questions about caring for your new investment in De Soto’s climate.
Residential Fence Installation for De Soto’s Mix of Homes
De Soto’s housing mix includes older single story homes, split levels from the late 20th century, and more recent builds with open backyards that transition into shared green space. Residential fence installation in this setting requires flexibility and an eye for how different fence styles look against varied architecture.
Legendary Fence Company Lawrence installs new fences for starter homes on compact lots, long narrow yards that stretch toward open fields, and larger properties on the edge of town. On older homes, we often replace aging metal or weathered wood with modern, sturdier materials while keeping the character of the property. On newer construction, we pay attention to grading and future landscaping plans so the fence will still look right once trees and shrubs mature.
For families who want privacy from neighboring decks and second story windows, we commonly install six foot wood or vinyl privacy fences around the backyard, sometimes stepping the height down along side yards to keep the street view open. Where homes back to open space or agricultural land, we help homeowners choose fence lines that define their property without blocking the wider view that many De Soto residents value.
Across all installations, we choose hardware and construction methods that handle local conditions, such as summer heat that can dry and shrink wood, spring rains that can soften soil, and winter freeze that can heave shallow posts. Our focus is on giving De Soto homeowners a fence that looks appropriate for their specific house and lot, while standing up to the region’s seasonal changes.
Fence Replacement and Repair for De Soto’s Aging Yards
Many De Soto properties have fences that were installed when the neighborhood was first built, which means a lot of wood and chain link that has seen decades of wind, sun, and moisture. Legendary Fence Company Lawrence helps homeowners decide when repair is practical and when full fence replacement makes more long term sense.
Common issues we see in De Soto include posts rotting at the base where clay soil holds moisture, panels that have warped or cracked due to repeated hot summers, and sections that lean after years of strong storms moving across open ground. For partial repairs, we can straighten and reinforce posts, replace broken pickets, and install stronger hinges and latches on sagging gates.
When a fence is beyond repair or no longer meets your privacy and security needs, we handle full replacement. This often includes removing old chain link that was installed around mid‑century homes, or outdated privacy fences that no longer match the appearance of updated siding, windows, and outdoor living spaces. We haul away old materials, inspect the ground beneath for soft spots or erosion, then rebuild with deeper posts and improved drainage where needed.
In yards where fences separate neighboring homes with slightly different grades, we pay close attention to gaps at the bottom that can let pets escape, and we adjust the fence line or add bottom boards to close those spaces. Our goal is to give De Soto homeowners a fence that solves everyday problems related to aging materials and shifting ground, without unnecessary work or expense.
Custom Privacy, Wood, Vinyl, and Chain Link Fences for De Soto
De Soto residents use their yards in many ways, so Legendary Fence Company Lawrence offers customized residential fences that fit specific needs and property types.
Privacy Fence Installation: In subdivisions where homes sit closer together, residents often want to shield patios and ground level windows from neighboring views. We design privacy fences that follow the natural slope of De Soto lots, rather than leaving awkward height changes or large gaps. We may recommend solid wood or vinyl panels where street traffic or nearby commercial areas create noise and visibility.
Wood Fence Installation: Wood remains popular in De Soto for its warm appearance next to traditional siding and brick. We help homeowners choose board styles and finishes that work with the age and style of their home. We account for Kansas humidity and sun exposure by recommending proper spacing and fasteners so boards can expand and contract without splitting.
Vinyl Fence Installation: Vinyl is often chosen in newer De Soto neighborhoods for its low maintenance and clean look. We install vinyl fences that resist warping in summer heat and remain stable through winter freeze. Color and style are selected to complement roofs, trim, and exterior paint commonly found in these developments.
Residential Chain Link Fences: For larger backyards or side yards where function is the priority, chain link can be an affordable solution. In De Soto, we see this used frequently for pet enclosures and utility areas where visibility is important. We can add privacy slats or upgrade to coated chain link to better withstand local weather while softening the industrial look.
